Belgium & The Netherlands

In Belgium, beer is a way of life! The country has enjoyed an unparalleled reputation for specialty beers since the Middle Ages. Connoisseurs favor Belgian beers for their variety, real flavor and character. There are approximately 125 breweries in Belgium producing over 800 varieties ranging from pale lagers and wheat beers to Abbey and Trappist Belgian Brown ales.

Your tour will include both Trappist and Abbey beers with opportunities to taste the products! Enjoy great beers with new friends. Eat delicious food from the region, either made with, or paired with the perfect beer. See the many historic sights that Belgium has to offer, castles, belfries and gardens. There are more castles per square mile in Belgium than anywhere else in the world. Beautiful castles to experience, formal gardens to get lost in, peaceful abbeys and historic battlefields are awaiting your visit.

We will enjoy Trappist beers brewed in a monastery by monks. Seven monasteries currently meet the qualifications for Trappist certification, six of which are in Belgium and one in the Netherlands. The Trappist producers are Achel, Chimay, Koningshoeven (the Netherlands), Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, and Westvleteren.

We will taste Abbey beers which are made by commercial breweries, taking advantage of the positive associations of the Trappist breweries by imitating the styles and names of Trappist beers. They are either brewed under license from an existing abbey, or brand their beers with the name of an abbey ruin or some other religious connection, such as a local saint.

What better way to savor and enjoy delicious beer without the worry of driving!
